Chris Dodd – Easy Target for GOP Senate Seat
Connecticut will turn red next year. Senator Chris Dodd, the Democrat Senator for Connecticut, is the longest serving Senator in Connecticut history. Just like a varsity athlete in high school facing competition from talented incoming freshman, Dodd’s long tenure does not exempt him from heated competition when he faces re-election next year.
Michele Malkin’s lead story today is about Obama throwing his weight behind Dodd’s re-election bid in 2010. This is clearly an example of how Obama claims to bring in change and a “new era of responsibility” yet continues to throw lifesavers to corrupt politicians. Dodd is widely blemished because of his Countrywide and Irish cottage scandals. Why I ask, why would the symbol of “hope and change” for the Democratic Party support someone who clearly runs contrary to these initiatives? Obama is playing politics, clearly.
If you followed me at my previous site, you know that I have thrown my personal support behind Peter Schiff, President of Euro Pacific Capital. Schiff is far from a rank and file Republican, and even recognizes that the political establishment will likely fund his competitors in the GOP primaries. Schiff is still in the exploratory stages, and his fund raising will be the deciding factor of whether he will run for the GOP nomination (which I think will decide the next Senator of Connecticut).
While Schiff is my personal favorite, there are three other contenders for the Connecticut Republican nomination. Former Congressman Rob Simmons, State Senator Sam Caligiuri, and Thomas C. Foley, former United States Ambassador to Ireland. In my opinion, it really does not matter which Republican ends up winning the GOP nomination, there is no way Dodd, who is tarnished and already polling behind GOP possibilities, is going to magically make up the ground on the GOP.
Overly optimistic? Some may say so. But the numbers, the blemishes on Dodd’s record, and the quality of competitors (if you even need to be anything above average against Dodd) will ultimately hand the GOP a Senate victory next Fall.
